Funhouse mirror

Penelope Sideshow has put up an exciting collection of her 2-D SL photos as well as a few pieces of 3-D sculpture in the *69 Art Lounge. Her photos often show people moving through SL when they appear to be caught in moments of exploration and play -- but in fact, the images are carefully choreographed compositions. See SL through Pen's eyes at *69 Art Lounge in Computer Club Records, now through March 3.

01.17.09: X-AM and Johnny Barbecue at XSar's Skating Rink

XSaraho Mornington was kind enough to host a wonderful evening of skating and ridiculousness at her rink.

The evening started out with a rambunctious DJ set from Johnny Barbecue...

And ended with a 45-minute set from X-AM, who was playing her third-ever show in SL.

Once again, many people were quoted as saying, "this is making me have a seizure".

The evening ended with X-AM and Mr. Barbecue agreeing to tour together in the near future...members of the *69 or Computer Club Records groups will know as soon as the dates are set.

Cole Marie Soleil manipulates space

ColeMarie Soleil has a beautiful and really fun installation to explore in the *69 Art Lounge, now until February 2. ColeMarie's sculptures use light and color dynamically and she has also managed to bend the *69 space in a surprising new direction -- be sure and climb the rope and see what else is right above you!

ColeMarie also has a work showing in Sinetetika sim, called Poetik.

Beautiful, not a mistake

To end Maht Wuyt's "Beautiful Mistakes" show at *69 Art Lounge, RobinLynne Raymaker organized a lovely little get-together last night. Maht DJd, pretty pixels showed up, and in the spirit of pretentious art, we served boxed wine à la Sars and Guin. Cheez-its, anyone?

*69 Blue Room- Divinity Restored

Since joining the *69 group, I've met up with a number of talented and motivated, lecherous sorts which has been a nice nod to get me back into a creative state of being.

Ya see, I spent the last few months with my head up my arse, tied around some wicked person's finger and while it may be too late to say, "you can't fire me, I quit', just imagine working at a Toy's R Us everyday, wherein, you discover that all the nifty, cool doodads being made in the front are being produced by small children in a immigrant sweatshop in the back. That would pretty much sum up the feeling I was taking away from my time here. I was quite ready to walk away from 2nd Life, prior to Cherelle Capra introducing me to Pris Telling.

*69, (which I was so sad to find out wasn't a free SLex group for down-trodden Noobs like myself,) was so kind as to have me in their Art Lounge space at Roland Thursday's Computer Club Records where I would kind of kick myself in the backside a bit to get creative again. In a very short period of time I was feeling positive and again reconsidering my motivations for being here in the 1st place.

One of my initial muses had been to explore the contrasts and duality of the human spirit through the form of build and hand pieced sculpture. I was given some land early on to construct, "Uzamaki- The Purgatory Lounge" which saw a lot of changes and revisions before I took it's full build down for good. Sure the "Heaven & Hell" thing has been done to death but I like to think I approached it with a fresh perspective and innovative view point.

The problem was, being fairly new, I honestly had no contacts or way to promote the Epic 900+ prim build and it was getting a little expensive to just keep as a "pet project", so I let it all tragically go back to my folders and closed up shop, thinking the whole idea a bit too ambitious, all be it inspired and rewarding in the process of making.

I'd been in contact with the land owner for some time about coming back and renting the land at a somewhat discounted rate, we'd got on well and he wanted me back. So late last week, done deal, I repurchased the land and sat and considered for a long while what to do with the space.

Being a somewhat spiritual dude, I just listened for my personal Muse and realized that this area could serve as a great platform for artists, not just myself but for this small group of people (Newdoll, Pris, Roland, Robin, Niko) who had been so kind to give me a brief platform, would benefit immensely from me not just being another empty handed subscriber to the *69 group but an actual backer with something to bring to the table on a creative tip as well.

So the game plan became this:

*Build the *69 social space, The Blue Room.

A place for our members to convene and be inspired, high above it all, a refuge from the unwashed masses of SL and a place to sit , have conversation, plan and simply enjoy ones surroundings. I've placed a number of readable books and magazines all around the place, on architecture, fashion, art and popular fiction just to accent the fact that this place is not just to be a pretty "thing" to look at but a place to reside and meditate peacefully on all manor of subjects trivial and profound. Occasionally, we plan to use this as a place for special events but generally speaking it's kind of sanctified grounds.

*Build the *69 Headquarters.

This is currently being headed up by a talented artist and builder Orson Pfohl, whom Pris has given me every confidence in. He will put a nice, modern public face on our Group and demonstrate the excellence he has in the past with such projects as Saint Clare Island. I look forward to seeing his visions realized as well.

*Provide a building space for *69 artists.

After all's said and done we want to provide a private sandbox here for people who are dead serious about their craft and don't want the hassle of sharing space with a bunch of looky-loos and merchants. We provide the blank canvas to you the artist in the form of prim availability, please take advantage of our services -- contact Pris Telling inworld to join the group and get details about the sandbox.

The 1st phase is done at this point, seeing this through to success will be to follow up on the execution and fully realize the idea that's been set in motion. Wish us well, show love and support and hopefully we'll be able to put something together with a viable sense of community support and artistic merit.
